Lawrence Halprin and Anna Halprin
and the Reinvention of Public Space
Join us for the release of a book celebrating the world-renowned Portland fountain plazas designed by Lawrence Halprin. Introduction by: Portland Parks Commissioner Nick Fish Lecture performance by: Ron Blessinger, violinist, Third Angle Ensemble, with dancer/choreographers Linda K. Johnson, Tere Mathern, Cydney Wilkes, and Linda Austin. Screening of: The City Dance of Lawrence and Anna Halprin. A documentary about the September 2008 performance in Halprin’s Portland plazas.

Lawrence Halprin: The Choreography of Gardens
To celebrate Lawrence Halprin's legacy, the Architectural Archives presents a first-ever retrospective, ”Lawrence Halprin: The Choreography of Gardens.” Drawn from the Archives’ extensive collection of Halprin’s work, the exhibition features over 60 objects, including sketches, photographs, and period publications to vividly demonstrate Halprin’s influence on the postwar landscape. With his wife, Anna Halprin—a seminal figure in the world of dance, Halprin explored the ”scoring” of bodily movement and sensory stimulation through his designs, perfecting the process within the relatively uncomplicated conditions of the private residence. A Celebration of Landscape Architecture Month: Fountain Festival at Ira Keller Forecourt Fountain
You are invited to come watch as the Ira Keller Forecourt Fountain is turned on for the season and 13,000 gallons of water per minute start to cascade through this historic city landmark! This year the fountain will become a living, breathing work of art as the community converges on the park to have lunch and honor the importance of Portland’s great public spaces. Join ASLA Oregon and Portland Parks and Recreation and the Halprin Conservancy in the celebration.
